Instead of just walking around with your buddy, the new feature focuses more on the augmented reality aspect of the game. In AR mode, you will be able to pet your selected Pokémon, play with it, and give it berries to eat. According to the developers, each Pokémon will have its own character, and the way you give your buddy berries will not always be the same. A Schiggy, for example, can be fed quite differently than a Kokowei with three heads.
After you select a new partner, he accompanies you and is visible on the map next to your character. Large Pokémon like Lugia fly in the air nearby. According to the official announcement, your buddy will point you to Pokéstops that are interesting for him and will support you in meeting other Pokémon.

- Super buddy: Do you sometimes have trouble catching Pokémon? Your buddy Pokémon may be able to come to your rescue during encounters with wild Pokémon. It can also collect items that will be useful to you on your Pokémon journey.
- Hyper Buddy: Your buddy Pokémon will inform you about interesting places nearby, helping you explore your surroundings. It will also bring you souvenirs that you can view in your buddy profile.
- Best Buddy: Starting at this buddy level, your buddy Pokémon will wear the Best Buddy ribbon so everyone can see how close you are. Pokémon with Best Buddy status receive a WP boost in battle as long as they are set as a Buddy Pokémon.
In addition to walking, fighting and patting, you increase your friendship with the Pokémon by feeding it and taking snapshots . The features of the buddy adventure are already partially active and will be gradually developed over the next year.
