It wasn’t just the 2021 Halloween event in Pokémon Go that awakened memories in many players of a feature that has been rather forgotten lately: evolution by swapping in Pokémon Go. Eh, was there something? Yes! In January 2020, the developers at Niantic introduced swap evolution to the game for some Pokémon, and at the time it came mainly with a nice feature that made trainers want to meet in the real world: If one of the Pokémon in question was swapped before evolution, then the evolution no longer cost candy!
But over time, the feature was rather forgotten again, because apart from a few candidates such as Maschock, Georok or Alpollo, most mon are rather rarely interesting for the metagame of Pokémon Go. But which Pokémon get a more favorable evolution through exchange?
Evolution by exchange – which Pokémon?
Below we have a small, but up-to-date overview of the pocket monsters that you can swap with friends in order to then save a lot of candies for the evolution. Remember: to be able to swap Pokémon, you must have reached at least level 10 with your avatar and, apart from events during which the swap range is increased, you must meet in the real world.
On top of that, you still have to pay the stardust for the exchange. And another disadvantage: You can’t be sure with which IV values you exchange your Pokémon. So, at best, wait for the proc of a lucky swap with your buddies – the IV of swapped lucky Pokémon can’t be below a certain level. In addition, it will be cheaper to level up Lucky Pokémon compared to non-Lucky Pokémon. The following Pokémon will have an exchange evolution in May 2022:
- Alpollo (becomes Gengar) needs 100 candies without exchange
- Georok (becomes Geowaz) needs 100 candies without exchange
- Irrbis (becomes Pumpdjinn) needs 200 candies without exchange
- Kadabra (becomes Simsala) needs 100 candies without exchange
- Laukaps (becomes Cavalanzas) needs 200 candies without exchange
- Maschock (becomes Machomei) needs 100 candies without exchange
- Paragoni (becomes Trombork) needs without exchange 200 candies
- Schnuthelm (becomes Hydragil) needs without exchange 200 candies
- Sedimantur (becomes Brockoloss) needs without exchange 200 candies
- Strepoli (becomes Meistagrif) needs 200 candies without exchange.
Pokémon GO
Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
