Since the PvP update for Pokémon GO went live, you can teach your Pokémon a second charged attack. However, you will need varying amounts of stardust and candies to do so.
Pokémon GO finally got the long-awaited PvP system with the trainer battles. However, the update released by developer Niantic, which is one of the largest patches in the history of Pokémon GO, also has other innovations to offer. You now have the option of teaching your Pokémon a second charge attack, which you can use in PvP as well as in Arena battles and Raids.
In order for your Pokémon to learn this second charged attack, you will need varying amounts of stardust and candies – but at least 10,000 stardust and 25 candies per Pokémon. How much of each resource is required to teach a Pokémon a second charge attack is determined on a case-by-case basis by the buddy distance – the distance you need to run for your Pokémon to get a candy. The editors of Forbes magazine have published a table that shows you the amount of stardust and candies required:
- Buddy distance: 1 kilometer – 10,000 stardust and 25 candies (for example, Geowaz, Stolloss and Wailord).
- Buddy distance: 3 kilometers – 50,000 stardust and 50 candies (for example, Machomei, Simsala, and Rohornior)
- Buddy distance: 5 kilometers – 75,000 stardust and 75 candies (for example Relaxo, Guardevoir and Elevoltek)
- Buddy distance: 20 kilometers – 100,000 stardust and 100 candies (for example, Mewtu, Meltan, and Rayquaza, as well as all other legendary Pokémon).
There are a few exceptions to this rule, however:
- All starter Pokémon and their evolutions end up in the lowest tier. So they already learn the second charge attack in exchange for 10,000 stardust and 25 candies.
- Individual baby Pokémon learn the second charge attack in the lowest tier in exchange for 10,000 stardust and 25 candies, while their evolutions are arranged in the highest tier – Elekid, for example, learns the charge attack for 25 candies, while Elevoltek is due 75 candies.
- Some unevolved Pokémon, such as Karpador, Raupy, and Isso, cannot learn a second Charge Attack, but their evolutions can.
This innovation opens up a lot of new possibilities for trainers, especially in the endgame of Pokémon GO – especially because the second charge attack will be available in PvP as well as in the Arena and Raid. It is possible that Niantic wants to give us more to do in the game in this way and at the same time strengthen previously rather useless and weaker Pokémon – without giving them an overall overhaul of their stats and attacks.

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.
Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights
Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.
Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.
Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More
The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
