PoGO – Pokémon GO: Valentine’s Day sale in PoGo – are special box, super box, hyper box worth it?

With the Valentine’s Day event in Pokémon Go, the boxes in the in-game store have been refilled and we take a look at the Special Box, Super Box and Hyperbox to tell you whether the current sale is worth it or not.

Just in time for the Valentine’s Day event in Pokémon Go, the developers at Niantic have filled the usual in-game sale boxes Special Box, Superbox and Hyperbox with new content that actually reflects the theme of the event quite well. That’s because this time around, it’s less about satisfying raiders with enough Premium Raid Passes or hatching fans with a decent set of hatchers.

Instead, there are plenty of Star Pieces and Lure Modules in store for the Pokécoin investors among the trainers – which is a bit counterproductive in light of the fact that a Community Day is taking place on February 16, 2019, and trainers are more likely to be encouraged to run around in order to grab as many Event Pokémon as possible. Especially those of you who want to farm stardust in combination with the squeaky Community Day will find what they are looking for in the sale.

But let’s just take a look at what’s in the boxes before we tell you whether you want to grab a box or prefer to leave the Poké Coins in your pocket. One note: As usual, we’re noting the changes from the previous sale in the item numbers in the parentheses. Another note: For Community Day, there will again be an additional Community Day box for 480 Pokécoins. But now to the content of the usual boxes:

As is often the case, the special box offers quite decent value for money for those who only want to spend a few coins. During Community Day, you’ll be most interested in the Star Pieces because they last for an hour and the Community Day bonus gives you triple the amount of stardust for catching Pokémon. As mentioned, Lock Module plus Star Piece are a bit counterproductive given the fact that you’re more likely to be running around on Community Day. However, if you’d rather sit in a cafe that also has a PokéStop, the combination is well worth it. Keep in mind, though, that the lure module will probably attract less squeakers and more other Pokémon. Don’t care about that? Then have a community day at the cafe.

The Super Box contains Lucky Eggs instead of Star Pieces, and it really doesn’t combine well with that – Community Day is about the Stardust Farm, not the XP Farm like the Lunar New Year event. But: At least the Super Incubators still fit the Valentine’s Day event, because you can find Wonneira in 7km eggs, among other things. But if you’re only interested in raid passes and spawn machines, you might want to flirt with the Hyperbox, even though the number of premium raid passes has been reduced compared to the last sale.

However, if you bought spawn machines and premium raid passes during the last sale, and you’re not interested in the lock modules and star pieces, then don’t bother with the sale. Yes, you’ll still save coins, of course, but the sale is not overwhelming if you don’t want to use Star Pieces and Lock Modules.

Pokémon GO

Pokémon Go is the mobile spin-off of Nintendo’s popular Pokémon game series for Android and iOS. It is a so-called “location-based game”, i.e. a game that uses the player’s immediate surroundings. It is based on the principle of augmented reality.

Pokémon Map: Between landmarks and sights

Pokémon Go uses a Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the player’s location and displays it on a map that also represents the playing field. The map is based on OpenStreetMap maps. The game is played mostly outdoors and uses landmarks, landmarks and other notable or eye-catching objects in the world to position either PokéStops or arenas there for you to battle for supremacy. Join either Team Intuition (Team Yellow, Zapdos), Team Wisdom (Team Blue, Arktos), or Team Daring (Team Red, Lavados). Under their flag you can then fight for the arenas, which are placed at hotspots like churches or similar. Pokémon can appear anywhere, though.

Pocket monsters visible on the Pokémon Go Map are randomly loaded into the game’s virtual map by the game server. If several players are playing in the same location, each player can see and catch the Pokémon independently of the others.

Pokémon Go Updates, News, Raids and More

The developers at Niantic regularly provide Pokémon Go with new updates or special raids that should only be tackled in a group of several people. The Pokémon Go Raids are therefore very popular, as they also offer the prospect of particularly rare Pokémon. For example, in the past, legendary Pokémon could always be caught on special occasions (Pokémon Go events). For particularly eager mobile or smartphone Pokémon trainers, there is also an external IV calculator, such as the online tool from Pokemon.gameinfo.io or on Pokefans.net, to check the values of your Pokémon.
