BACKGROUND

As a private investigator, she managed to uncover a bomb attack in Bangkok, which brought her to the attention of the Royal Thai Police (RTP). Her ability to link seemingly unrelated incidents has earned her the grudging respect of Thailand’s male-dominated law enforcement agencies. However, she was a thorn in the side of numerous crime syndicates.
RTP offered her a job as an investigator with the Crime Prevention Division, which not only enabled her to dismantle a human trafficking ring but also thwart four bombings. Her superiors were highly impressed with her ability to trace and link various shipments of explosives. However, her police career came to a tragic end when Aruni nearly lost her life while on duty in Bangkok.
After her recovery, she was contacted by Jaimini “Kali” Shah. Kali’s access to state-of-the-art prosthetics may have been a key factor in Aruni joining Nighthaven.
PSYCHOLOGICAL REPORT
Aruni can react quickly, both mentally and physically. She rarely hesitates and her judgment is impeccable even in the most difficult of situations. Her reaction speed combined with her firearms and martial arts expertise make her a versatile and deadly combatant. Her training regimen – following years of physical and mental recovery – is highly intense but keeps her performing at her best.
Aruni’s joining of Nighthaven appears to be purely expedient. Nighthaven pays her well and gives her access to the latest prosthetic technology. Although she uses a small portion of her salary to cover living expenses, she is secretly a benefactor with a very modest lifestyle. Much of their money and time goes to charitable projects, primarily focused on clearing unexploded landmines on the Thailand-Cambodia border and providing medical care to victims.
One of Aruni’s most loyal companions is Hero, a giant hamster rat trained to dispose of explosives. Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, Hero appears to be her emotional companion animal.
When time is of the essence, Aruni has a penchant for subordinating rules to purpose – an understandable impulse, especially when lives are at stake, but this is met with little approval from her superiors. While she has done brilliant police work, her penchant for flouting prescribed procedures for the sake of expediency led to a number of minor infractions.
While she has done most of her work in Thailand, Aruni has traveled extensively around the world. Her love of travel has taken her through large parts of Southeast Asia, Central and South America. She and other Special Operations personnel – notably Emmanuelle “Twitch” Pichon and Sanaa “Nomad” El Maktoub – have traveled together before. They not only kept each other company, but also offered each other protection in insecure regions.
Through photography – something she picked up as a private detective in Bangkok – she seeks to create global awareness of the vast minefields left over from past wars. Many of these personal photographs depict the victims of conflict, particularly those maimed by abandoned military equipment. Ultimately, these images allow her to give herself what so many believe we truly deserve—compassion.
