BACKGROUND
“You can’t escape me, but you’re probably trying anyway.”
Nothing concrete is known about Al-Hassar’s childhood due to incomplete foster care records. After he was eventually placed in the care of his older brother Faisal, the two did not appear in official records for several years, until Faisal was assassinated and al-Hassar once again found himself without a home. The murder has not been solved to this day. Al-Hassar was treated by a compassionate police officer after the tragedy, which encouraged him to find his brother’s killer. On his 18th birthday he entered the Cuerpo Nacional de Policía. With the help of his mentor, Al-Hassar graduated from the academy in a short time. He stood out as a fast learner and exceptional lateral thinker. It is thanks to his tenacious determination that that a number of criminal cases could be solved, but unfortunately the murder of his brother remains unsolved. After the Grupo Especial de Operaciones approved Al-Hassar’s further training, he excelled at off-road driving, rappelling, marksmanship and knowledge of terrorist groups. He regularly appears at the CNP Academy as a guest lecturer and part-time instructor.

Specialist Ryad “Jackal” Ramírez Al-Hassar has been a night person for as long as he can remember. As his career progressed, given the demands of the job, that was almost a blessing. But at some point during this time, the night activity developed into insomnia. Al-Hassar can no longer remember the last time he slept well.
The murder of his brother is always present in his thoughts. The longer the case remains unsolved, the more frustrated he becomes. I can hear guilt in the way he says certain things, but when I point them out he brushes them off. Still, he’s agreed to explore further — mostly because the guilt came after he quit his job as a crime investigator. They’re deep and while I don’t think they interfere with his day-to-day work, it’s not ideal.
Al-Hassar is on good terms with many of his teammates, including Specialists Mike “Thatcher” Baker, Emmanuelle “Twitch” Pichon, and Olivier “Lion” Flament. He worked closely with Specialist Elena María “Mira” Álvarez. In their togetherness, I recognize the deep respect they feel for one another.
His experiences made Al-Hassar a protective individual with a passionate sense of justice. Sometimes his competition brings him to the point of narrow-mindedness, but he always manages to pull himself together before jeopardizing a mission. He described to me that before each assignment he imagines mental switches that will be thrown. These “switches” allow him to get even more out of his abilities and stay focused. Still, I’d like to explore this further to see if we can help him balance his personal life as well. I have to make sure he doesn’t have any major mood swings when he’s not at work.
I encouraged him to live his life for himself. He took a few steps in this direction by teaching at the academy. Not only will his talent be invaluable to the young police cadets, but it will also create connections that al-Hassar never knew he lacked. I also just found out that our conversation persuaded Al-Hassar to volunteer for at-risk youth. Helping others get their lives under control may also give them some security in their inner world.
