Multiplayer
You unlock the L96A1 at level 27 and it deals the highest damage per shot of all sniper rifles. Thanks to the multipliers, a shot to the shoulders, stomach, chest or head is an instant kill unless you have a silencer on it. The disadvantages are the low magazine capacity, gigantic recoil, slow rate of fire and slow speed with the gun. The player is very vulnerable between shots and two consecutive hits are usually quite difficult.
The L96A1 has the largest swing of any sniper rifle. At six degrees, it follows in the footsteps of the R700 from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and the Intervention from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Variable zoom is arguably the most practical attachment for the L96A1 because it allows the player to see targets that are closer and farther away than they normally would. The infrared sight and magazine extension are also solid choices, but Geist Pro completely makes up for the former and the latter choice is mostly unnecessary.
The L96A1 has the SUSAT sight when you attach an ACOG sight, a feature that only the Enfield still has. To really play with an ACOG, you need oodles of skill and precision because you can’t hold your breath with it and every shot could result in good or bad luck.
As with all sniper rifles, if you select a silencer, the L96A1 will only kill you in the neck and head with one hit. However, since sniper rifles don’t have a damage penalty for multiple hits when you use a silencer, the L96A1 is probably the worst choice for one because it’s nearly impossible to land two consecutive shots.
Steeled Pro is an excellent choice for this weapon because you can also get instant kills through objects and not deviate if you are under enemy fire. Scout is also worth considering because you can control the high momentum of the L96A1 for a longer period of time. Nimble doesn’t really need to be, because the Pro version has no effect on sniper rifles anyway.
Thanks to the high potential for bullet kills, the L96A1 is probably the most used sniper in multiplayer. It is often compared to a direct competitor, the PSG1. There is one important difference. While the L96A1 has a slower rate of fire, it is more likely to kill an enemy instantly if you hit the upper body, thanks to the 1.5 damage multiplier on the shoulders. On the other hand, the PSG1 is semi-automatic and can shoot faster, but cannot kill with a hit to the shoulders. With these facts in mind, it comes down to what you personally prefer; the faster rate of fire or the higher damage.
Survival Combat
In Survival Combat, the L96A1 can be purchased at the mystery crate for 950 points. It kills with one shot until round 7, but after that it loses this ability if you shoot into the body. The weapon is not available in the Wii version.
Due to the long time to go into the sights, low rate of fire, high recoil, and low accuracy when firing from the hip, this is undoubtedly not a good primary weapon in survival combat. However, when other players are fighting the undead, it’s a great way to provide supporting fire. With double fire malt beer, the player pushes the bolt faster after firing, which also allows you to shoot faster. Also, with death daiquiri you can reduce high momentum, increase accuracy from the hip, and more importantly; the potential for headshots increases, so you need fewer bullets.
If you upgrade the L96A1 in the Pack-a-Punch machine, the new name is “L115 Isolator”, in the process the damage has been increased and you now have variable zoom. From round 22 you can’t kill with one hit with it either. The magazine capacity is increased from five to eight bullets. Although the weapon is not particularly advantageous for survival, it kills efficiently in its own way, making it good. On round 34, you would need a full 35 bullets from a Galil that was punched to kill a zombie. At the same time, you need to fire exactly one bullet from the L115 Isolator, provided you hit the head. From round 41, you need two shots to the head. Exactly the same applies to the punched Dragunov, which shares damage with the L96A1.
Call of Duty: Black Ops: Declassified
The L96A1 makes its return in this Black Ops spin-off. It looks like its prototype, but has a different fire sound. Fortunately, the popular feature of killing with one hit has been retained.
