Campaign

The Python is used in the campaign by Mason as he tries to wipe out a tunnel full of Viet Cong in the Victor Charlie mission. While doing so, he holds a flashlight exactly the way you held the tactical knife in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. It’s the secondary weapon in Presidential Decree, and in SOG you use it to take down the Viet Cong who are about to shoot Woods.

Later in the story, more specifically in the Payday mission, the VC Bookie uses it to play a game of Russian Roulette with Woods and Mason. After Woods pulls the trigger and no bullet flies out of the gun, it’s Mason’s turn, who daringly hopes the bullet is now in the right place, is proven right, and shoots one of his interrogators. For the rest of the mission you can’t use the gun, probably because only one bullet was introduced, so you use the bookie’s CZ75.

Multiplayer

You unlock the Python at level 18. It has the highest maximum as well as minimum damage of all the pistols in multiplayer, so it’s a weapon you can use well. It also has the highest hip-fire accuracy of any weapon from the game. At close range it kills with two shots and at a certain distance it kills with four. In hardcore game modes, it is the most powerful secondary weapon by far, as it kills with one shot, no matter the distance. The drawbacks are the tiny magazine of only six rounds, the high recoil, and the slow reload, which can be compensated for with nimbleness, speed loader, or akimbo.

The double-handed attachment is very effective, as you can land a kill at close range with just one shot combination (one shot from each hand). Also, the Python then automatically gets a quickloader, meaning all six bullets are reloaded at once. The big downside to this is that it takes much longer to get the gun out, which can mean death if you’re in the middle of a fight. The ACOG sight can make up for the high recoil and the lack of danger at range, making it a pretty deadly secondary weapon.

Survival Combat

The Python kills from round 1-10 with one shot. After that, you already need two hits to the chest, but shooting it in the head still gives you the advantage of an instant kill. The weapon is often spurned in zombie mode, as it has few bullets in the magazine and takes a long time to reload. Nevertheless, it is a powerful secondary weapon when it comes to life and death.

If you upgrade the Python with the Pack-a-Punch automatic, its new name is “Cobra” and it has 12 bullets in the magazine as well as 96 bullets in reserve, plus it has an automatic speed loader. The damage at short range doesn’t increase, but the damage at distance does, which can be useful if you stand a bit further away from the undead. Still, you should aim well, because ammo is still sparse and every missed shot is wasted.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II

The Python makes a reappearance in Black Ops II’s Survival Battle, plus it can be seen briefly on Jonas Savimbi, but it’s in a holster. It behaves just like its predecessor from Black Ops and kills with one shot until round 9, meaning it is a strong secondary weapon. The drawbacks, as always, are the small magazine of six rounds, which is immediately empty if you fire quickly, and the long reload times. The improved version, the Cobra, is also like in Black Ops, meaning an enlarged magazine, instant kills up to round 16, and a speed loader that speeds up reloading tremendously.

The Python is the cheapest weapon in multiplayer, along with the Ballistic Knives and the CZ75, because it costs only 1500 CoD Points, not 2000 like all the other weapons.
The punched version has a scaled-down visor, which is how the normal Python was originally supposed to look.
The Python seems to be Mason’s favorite secondary weapon, as he uses it in many missions.
In the uncensored version, the Python can sever body parts, which means it is the only gun capable of doing so in the campaign.
In early stages of development, the Python was called the .357 Magnum.
There is a fingerprint on the barrel of the Python.
The Python, the Webley and the MP412 are the only revolvers that appeared in the campaigns in Call of Duty. The .44 Magnum and the .357 Magnum only appeared in the bonus mission Museum and Survival, as well as in multiplayer.

Originally, the Python was supposed to have a black sight, and you could also buy an attachment called Improved Sight. However, in the hour-long interview where the gun game was presented, the real Python with a quick loader and the white visor appeared.
The Python is the only pistol from the Call of Duty series that you can put an ACOG sight on. It is generally the only secondary weapon for which this attachment is available.
The Python has three different reloading animations. The first one is available for both normal and short-barreled, the second one is used when you have an ACOG sight on, and the third one is for quick-loaders, where all the bullets are inserted simultaneously.
In Zombie Mode, the punched Python is called “Cobra”. On the one hand, this is a play on words, because both weapons were named after a type of snake, and on the other hand, Colt developed a revolver that was called this, Colt Cobra.
In zombie mode, characters react negatively when they pull the Python on the mysterious box, which is strange since it does exactly the same damage as the .357 Magnum, a weapon that characters still reacted positively to in Call of Duty: World at War.
Strangely enough, the reloading sound of the Python from the third-person view sounds exactly like the M1911. This can be explained by the fact that all pistols in Black Ops have been given the same sounds for third person.
Originally, the Python was supposed to have a quick-loader and a short-barrel in the gun game, but it didn’t make it into the final version. You can see this in early videos of the gun games.
On the Wii version, the Python is held in one hand, just like any other pistol.
If you reload the Python without a speed loader, you can see that there are still three slots left, even if you only put in one or two bullets.
With a quickloader, the Python has the same reloading animation as the .357 Magnum from World at War.
You can hear a cartridge case fall to the ground after each shot.
The Python is the first revolver in the Call of Duty series that doesn’t have a speedloader installed from the start.
On the Wii version of Cinema of the Dead, you can’t get this gun on the box.
If you look closely when reloading, you can see that spent shell casings are put into the gun.
When you shoot the VC Bookie with the Python in the Payday mission, the gun firing sounds like pulling the trigger twice in quick succession with the CZ75.

Black Ops II

In the game files, there is a menu icon for the Python, which suggests that it was originally available in the class editor before each mission in the campaign.
In TranZit, characters often make fun of the fact that the Python looks like a penis that is way too small.
When comparing the Python to the Executioner, it quickly becomes apparent that they both have the same problem. However, Python has a better range and capacity. The punched version, i.e. the Cobra, has much more ammo in the magazine and has a speed loader, which clearly makes it the better weapon.

Call of Duty
