WoW Classic has been creating a new hype for a few weeks now – our author Paul Herzog takes this as an opportunity to take you on his maiden voyage through WoW in 2005. Today’s issue is all about fulfilling Barlow’s “classic hunter cliché”.
WoW Classic takes us back to the purist Azeroth of days gone by. It sees itself as a renaissance of a play style that – one might think – has long been lost in online role-playing games. Exploring the darkest dungeons and most adventurous lairs is a big part of WoW Classic, albeit a full-length one. Finding the right party, accepting the required quests, and taking on the usually arduous journey – all of that takes time.
A few days ago, I landed with two friends in the depths of Blackfathom, an instance in the Ashenvale of Kalimdor. In today’s diary entry, I’d like to tell you about the run, which will probably go down as one of the most interesting in the history of WoW characters involved. To make it short: At the end of the day, I was added to the friends list because “this hunter is also supposed to destroy our first Onxyia run. I am sure he will pull all the puppies”.
The “blackest grotto”
” Paul, you confirm the stereotype of a hunter “. When Philip made this statement, four out of five players were lying dead on the floor, while three of them were writhing on the ground with belly-aching laughter. The starting point of this funny situation was probably the third wipe, for which I was responsible (unintentionally, mind you).
Do you remember the WoW legend Barlow and his class comments? For example, he says of the hunter that he has ” three tasks within a group “. The first task is to wipe the group: ” For this, the hunter has a diverse repertoire of skills ” – both multi -shot and snake bite are extremely helpful in breaking the various control abilities.
But his faithful companion also fulfills the role intended for the hunter – because ” in posture three [note: the aggressive posture], it behaves like a rabid Mike Tyson on crack “. When, in an unattended moment, my trusty companion eluded my otherwise impeccable control and pursued the enemy minions to the far end of the room, we knew: Death is near – and it will be painful.
The hunter’s joy is the healer’s sorrow
Another unique selling point of the classic Barlow hunter is the aggro problems that arise from multiple shots. This should also come true that evening – because my well (un)considered multiple shot activities (” Oh, AOE spells now hit targets that aren’t already in combat? “) should last both tank and healer ” two years of their life as well as a “safe bypass” .
Does he at least die?
In World of Warcraft (buy now) the punishment usually follows immediately – but that evening I was spared from it. Because instead of “dying like a man “, I knew how to remove myself from the group at the right time to seek my safe place on the other side of the lake. So while my group faced certain death, I had to finish my hunter performance.
The thing with karma is such a thing – because although I was spared the anger of the henchmen, at the end of the day I died of my own incompetence: the water seemed to be the greatest challenge.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
