The Moon Festival will not only take place in WoW: Battle for Azeroth, but also in WoW Classic. We summarize the most important details about the event for you, including the differences to the well-known version from Battle for Azeroth.
Vacation – Season in WoW Classic (buy now) : The Lunar Festival, which takes place from January 24 to February 7, 2020 in Azeroth, holds various rewards, items and quests for hardworking heroes. As the equivalent of Chinese New Year, the Moon Festival in World of Warcraft revolves around the battle of the ancestors against the villain Omen.
Since the Lunar Festival in WoW Classic differs from the Lunar Festival in WoW: Battle for Azeroth in a few ways, we have summarized the most important details about the Classic event here in this guide.
The Mid-Autumn Festival – festivities by invitation only
The actual Moon Festival takes place in Moonglade. In order to be able to participate in the Moon Festival festivities without having to travel to Moonglade on foot, you can get a special invitation. To do so, simply speak to a Lunar Festival celebrant in your faction’s capitals and accept the Lunar Festival quest. The celebrants, called “Herald of the Moon Festival” on the Horde side and “Emissary of the Moon Festival” on the Alliance side, can be found in the following locations:
Darnassus: near the shore (at 42/44).
Ironforge: near the shore (at 31/61)
Stormwind: near the shore (at 54/66)
Orgrimmar: near the shore (at 51/70)
Thunder Bluff: near the main elevator (at 38/63)
Lower Town: near the shore (at 67/43)
The Lunar Festival celebrants will next send you to the Lunar Festival messengers, who are also located in the main cities. You can also seek them out directly and not have to detour through the Revelers if you wish:
Darnassus: Enclave of Cenarion (from 32.12).
Ironforge: Mystic District (at 29.16)
Stormwind: Park (at 23.53)
Ogrimmar: Valley of Wisdom (at 41.32)
Thunderbluff: Rise of the Elders (at 71.28)

The Lunar Festival Heralds will now give you the quest “Lunar Fireworks.” To complete this quest, you must purchase the Moonfireworks from the Moonfest vendor right next to the quest giver. You will purchase eight small rockets and two rocket clusters – the color doesn’t matter – and fire them to complete the quest objectives.
Now turn in the quest to receive the Moon Festival Invitation and 50 reputation points with the Circle of Cenaria. The Moon Festival Invitation will allow you to teleport to the lunar landscape. The next quest called Valadar Starsong will also take you there.
You can find Starsong by going north on the road towards Nighthaven after teleporting to Moonglade. By the way, you can use the Moon Festival Invitation for 24 hours after you receive it. The invitation has a ten-minute cooldown, and you can pick up a new invitation from the Lunar Festival envoys at any time during the event.
The Ancestors of Azeroth – Collect coins of the ancestors
Everywhere in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms are the so-called ancestors that you can speak to. Each of these ancestors grants you 50 reputation points with your faction (Horde or Alliance). In addition, after a few hours you will receive a lucky red envelope in the mail, which, in addition to the event currency Coins of Ancestors, also contains other items such as rocket bundles.
You need the coins to buy event items and complete quests (more on that later). You can find their ancestors in the following locations in Kalimdor:

Get at least 20 to 30 rockets (any color).
Run to the lake at coordinates 65/65.
Keep firing rockets until Omen appears.
To defeat Omen, you should – depending on your equipment – pound the elite opponent in a raid with 30 to 40 players. Avoid his area damage (Starfall) and stand behind him during the fight, then he’ll be in the dust pretty quickly. Once you’ve defeated Omen, a moonbeam will appear. Stand in the beam to receive the blessing of Elune and complete the quest objective.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
