Phase 3 of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic gives us access to the bosses in the first raid instance of the Caverns of Time: the Battle for Hyjal! Not only does the iconic battle from Warcraft 3 await you there, but you’ll also have to deal with five bosses and numerous trash waves. We’ll tell you how to defeat the nasties.
With Phase 3 of WoW: Burning Crusade Classic, two iconic raid challenges will open their doors to all Outland guilds: the Battle for Hyjal and the Black Temple. However, unlike the bosses in the Fortress of Storms and the Serpentshrine, the nasties in the Tier 6 content will be coming to the live servers in their toned-down form right away, according to Blizzard.
In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the raid instance in the Caverns of Time, including tips and tricks for the fights against Furor Winterfrost, Anetheron, Kaz’rogal, Azgalor and the final boss Archimonde. On to new shores
In the Caverns of Time, you can relive one of the most iconic battles in WoW history, the battle for Hyjal Peak, starting in Phase 3. The time travel trip is only on the agenda, however, if you have defeated the two phase 2 end bosses Prince Kael’thas and Lady Vashj for the Soridormi pre-quest and have taken the respective vial parts from them.
Unlike the first two time travel instances, the Battle for Mount Hyjal does not involve the Eternal Dragonflight. Basically, it’s just a journey into the past and has no historical connection to the current events in Azeroth.
In addition to very good loot, your raid can look forward to the first Tier 6 set items. The Battle for Hyjal, by the way, is a recreation of the last Warcraft 3 mission, in which you, along with Thrall, Jaina Splendor Sea, and Tyrande Wisperwind, stopped the Burning Legion, led by Archimonde, from destroying the World Tree on Hyjal Peak.
The usual preparation
In order to successfully survive the five bosses and their associated trash mob waves, the usual preparation is required. The most important point should be clear – the pre-quest – see above. Due to the numerous waves of enemies, you should pack a protective paladin, who can easily collect numerous front-line enemies in one fell swoop. Add to that a few mages and warlocks and the waves of trash should quickly pass away.
As for resistances: You don’t necessarily need resistance gear on any bosses in the battle for Hyjal. But you can make the fights against Azgalor and Kaz’rogal easier if the raid has at least some shadow resistance at the start. It’s a good thing that the opening of the Black Temple will provide you with corresponding items sooner or later. Already the combination of Blessed Medallion of Karabor plus Night’s End plus Shadow Protection will give you 150 Shadow Resistance, which will already make the battles much easier.
In the Alliance camp
Once you are ready, you can enter the instance in the northeastern section of the Caverns of Time. Once inside, two NPCs will be waiting to offer you recipes for jewels and the coveted Tier 6 items. You can also repair your equipment here. In this antechamber you will see three silver portals, two of which are still locked – these are the shortcuts to the respective bases.
Take the left path to get to the Alliance base. Several fellow Alliance members, including their leader Jaina Prachtmeer, are already waiting for you. However, before you take on the first boss, you’ll need to assemble a strong battle group.
Trashmobs and Setup
The first four boss encounters are always the same. Before the bosses appear, you’ll have to deal with eight waves of trash mobs, each with a different structure. The mobs are mostly undead and comparable to those from Warcraft 3. You’ll have to deal with ghouls, monstrosities and necromancers, among others.
You’ll only have a little more than two minutes per wave. So don’t spend too long with control effects, but let your protection paladin collect the wave and then bomb the group away. Warlocks and Mages should be careful with their aggro. All other tanks will catch escaping enemies if needed. Players who die during the trash groups immediately run back into the instance. Of course, this is not possible during the boss fights.
Back in the original TBC, a good party composition for Hyjal looked like this: seven to eight healers, four or five tanks, and six to seven area spell casters (mages and sorcerers). However, with a Protection Paladin on the team, you won’t need such a bloated tank quartet in 2022. Add a Protection Warrior and a Fierceness Druid and you’re good to go. If the content is indeed weakened, five to six healers should be enough.

Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access to WoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
