The next WoW expansion takes us back to the Warcraft past. And that brings with it some well-known characters that appear for the first time in World of Warcraft. Some might ask: Who are these Warlords of Draenor? And who are their opponents? We introduce you to the protagonists of Warlords of Draenor in our series of articles.
The next WoW expansion Warlords of Draenor brings with it a whole chunk of Warcraft nostalgia. Our heroes travel to ancient Draenor. You travel back to a time when Draenor was not yet a shattered Outland, but the thriving home of the orcs. On Draenor we will encounter characters that have only been marginally or not at all featured in games in the Warcraft series. Some people may therefore be wondering who these eponymous Warlords of Draenor actually are – and who will stand up to them in the next WoW expansion. We want to introduce them to you in this series of articles.
WoW: The heroes of Warlords of Draenor – Khadgar
“Not again,” Khadgar must be thinking, considering the events of Warlords of Draenor. Because the “probably most capable of all living magicians” should have had enough of problems with the Dark Portal. Khadgar’s career began when the Kirin Tor sent the would-be mage to the quirky wizard Medivh. Under his tutelage in Karazhan, Khadgar not only gained a better understanding of magic, he also learned to doubt his teacher. Rightly so, as will be shown later.
For Khadgar discovered that Medivh was in fact little more than a puppet of Sargeras. Unfortunately, the Burning Legion’s plan was discovered too late, and Khadgar was unable to stop Medivh and the opening of the portal in time. At this point, already supported by Anduin Lothar and Halborcin Garona, he returned to Karazhan and killed his former master. During the battle, however, Khadgar was cursed – the 17-year-old boy became an old man with gray hair. However, that didn’t stop him from ultimately ending the Second War by destroying the Dark Portal.
Peace, joy and pancakes? Are you kidding me? Are you serious when you say that. Knowing full well that the threat was not over, the alliance had Castle Nethergarde built – Khadgar kept a watchful eye. The mage even led the expedition that traveled to Draenor after the portal actually reopened. Among other things, Khadgar and his friends managed to snatch Deathwing’s skull from Gul’dan. Armed with this magical artifact, Khadgar then had to close the portal again. But this time from the other side. The Alliance fighters could no longer stop the destruction of Draenor, which Ner’zhul initiated by opening more portals. The only hope: cut the connection to Azeroth and protect the home planet. Accordingly, Khadgar also belonged to the Warcraft characters, whose whereabouts remained unclear for a long time. Only with the WoW expansion The Burning Crusade did he appear again. In Shattrath City, the Mage serves as an advisor to the Naaru A’dal.
Khadgar in Warlords of Draenor
Nothing is known about Khadgar’s role in the next expansion. However, we already know that the mage helps start the events of Draenor. Because even before the Iron Horde invaded Azeroth, Khadgar noticed that something was wrong with the portal. We’re excited to see if the veteran will turn out to be an irreplaceable companion in the alternative Draenor as well. The main thing is that this time he doesn’t stay behind after the work is done.
What is WoW Classic?
World of Warcraft Classic is a true recreation of the original WoW as you know it from 2006. All parts of the game – from combat mechanics and talent trees to character models and zones – have been recreated, contributing to the authentic experience.
Getting Started
All players with an active World of Warcraft subscription or game time on their accounts have access toWoW Classic at no additional cost.
- Open the Blizzard Battle.net Desktop App and select World of Warcraft from the menu.
- Select World of Warcraft Classic from the Version menu. If you have more than one World of Warcraft account, you’ll see a second Account drop-down list. In this column, select the active account you want to play with.
- Click the Install button. The progress bar will tell you when your game is ready to play.
- Click the Play button when the installation is complete.
You will need to select the realm you want to play on from several different realm types. Make sure you choose the same realm as your friends – in World of Warcraft Classic, you can only group with characters that are on the same realm as you!
