Born to wealthy parents, Shah knew from an early age that she would always achieve her goals. That confidence took a hard hit when she tried to join the military. Her interest in martial arts had led her on this path, but she soon found that women were denied service in combat units. Despite all her money and social influence, there was an obstacle standing between her and her desires that just wouldn’t go away. She turned away from the military and set up her own private security company to operate within India. This was later followed by the private military company NIGHTHAVEN for operations abroad. She regularly negotiates multi-million dollar deals that are heavily weighted in her favor.

[…] Despite our common heritage, Specialist Jaimini Kalimohan “Kali” Shah’s experiences are as alien to me as if she came from the dark side of the moon. Contrary to what the romantics of this world would like you to believe, money actually creates a barrier that cannot be crossed by any other means.
As a child, Shah got everything she wanted without effort or much focus. She is as ambitious as she is arrogant, but not unfounded. She is a great leader, as evidenced primarily by pushing those under her command beyond their psychological and physical limits in order to “reforge” them. The fact that those who complete their training are then inducted into an inner circle—a “society of protectors,” as she calls it—sets them only slightly apart from notorious crime bosses. And yet it is my belief that everyone has something to teach, so I should not reject their methods.
Does Shah have any national pride? Hard to say. For the ultra-rich, borders are little more than recommendations. But the fact that she has taken the name of Kali and is ruthless against anyone who crosses her path suggests a connection to the land of her ancestors. I assume that this lack of clarity as to her motivations is why she’s already having trouble with Specialist Eliza “Ash” Cohen, but that’s to be expected. Cohen lives by extremely strict rules, and Shah’s very existence challenges many of Cohen’s beliefs.
As for her strengths, she has many. She didn’t get this far by resting on her family’s laurels. Their training is ruthless, benefiting from the best instructors and equipment money can buy. She’s brave, some would say cocky, and she’s cunning. In short, she is someone I would hate to have as an enemy, so bringing her to Rainbow seemed wise. Given our current friends and foes, we might need their very own strategies sooner than we’d like.
